The Doornails

Venturing down from the hills east of the Hudson, this talented trio mixes the elements of old style blues and bluegrass into something new, different and slightly warped.

The Doornails deliver a memorable collection of ‘tongue-in-cheek’ originals with obscure covers and a few familiar ‘warhorses’.  All of their songs come flavored with some twang, a little soul and a lotta chops.  The stellar musicianship of Master-Flat Picker, Mike McMann and longtime harp blaster/songwriter Ted Hennessy shine when this trio rips through a set.  All the while, ‘Geno’ Lemme on the stand up bass keeps The Doornails from veering off too far off into the ditch.

Mike McMann (guitar and vocals), is one of the finest guitar players to hail from New York's capital region.  He is a versatile musician who has been a regular on local stages for over 25 years. As a veteran of bluegrass, solo acoustic, jam band and classic rock circles, Mike plays it all and he plays it very, very well.   He has built his reputation as a premier acoustic player hosting several local bluegrass jams.  His original instrumentals (featured on his most recent solo recording, Streamside), have become ‘standards’ at local bluegrass jams.   Mike brings his ‘lightning-fast’ licks, impeccable tone and world-class chops to the forefront in The Doornails.

Ted Hennessy (Harmonica and Vocals) is another ‘old soul’ with an impressive resume in the roots/blues scene.  This veteran Blues-Harp-Honker, singer and songwriter from Upstate NY, is best known to regional audiences for his six year stint as front man for Scotty Mac and The Rockin Bonnevilles.  His skills on the blues harp earned him a spot on the "Best of Upstate Harmonica Blowoff," recorded live at the Dinosaur B-B-Q and opportunities to play with some of the world’s best blues musicians.   Ted’s songwriting skills were recognized when his anthem “Graveyard for The Blues” was named “best original blues song” in 2002 by REAL BLUES magazine.  The Doornails bring his ‘down-home’ harmonica stylings from his back porch into earshot.

Gene “Geno” Lemme (AKA – “Clembone”) was destined to grace the stages of local clubs from the moment he picked up the stand up bass.  Since his recent entrée to the local bluegrass scene, Geno has been called upon to back some of the best bluegrass players in the area.  His joy on stage is infectious, his beat is steady and his purpose is clear.  Geno serves up the bottom to fill in the potholes left by McMann and Hennessy as The Doornails ‘tear-ass’ down the mountainside onto a stage near you.
